Why the free version isn't crippled
A lot of free tiers are shaped like a complaint — three items, a watermark, a nag screen. That approach would make this product worse at the exact moment it needs to work, which is the morning of your wedding.
So the free planner is complete. The paid product isn't the same thing with the handcuffs off; it's a different tool that happens to include this one. If you don't need a seating chart, you don't need to pay, and that's the correct outcome.
Common questions
What's the catch with free?
There isn't one. The free planner is a complete tool — unlimited shots, priority flagging, the mobile checklist, headshots, and printables. It isn't a trial, it doesn't expire, and it doesn't get worse over time. It costs very little to run, and it's the best possible advertisement for the paid product.
So what am I paying for in Seat the Day?
Two things. First, headshots — putting a face next to each name, so your photographer looks for a person instead of calling into a room, plus the printable face sheet that comes with it. Second, the connection to your real guest list: your shot list already knows every guest, their side, their group, and their table, because you built the seating chart there. “College friends at table nine” becomes a real set of people.
Do I have to buy Seat the Day to use the shot list?
No. The free planner is complete on its own — unlimited shots, priorities, the photographer checklist, and printables. You only need Seat the Day if you want headshots or a seating chart.
Is there a subscription?
No. Seat the Day is $14 one-time for one wedding, and the connected Shot List Planner is part of that. There's no recurring charge and nothing to cancel.
What happens to my list after the wedding?
It stays where it is. You can come back, print it, or export it. Nothing gets deleted on a schedule.
